In total, the band has released five studio albums, one EP and one box set. Their first studio
album, “Undertow” (1993), propelled them to popularity in the alternative metal movement. Tool
only gained more fans and greater momentum with the release of their follow-up
albums, “Ænima” (1996), “Lateralus” (2001), and “10,000 Days” (2006).
Tool is known for their musical experimentation and visual artistry. A Tool show is aesthetically
pleasing, as it combines visual images on the screen which coordinate with the deeper meaning to
each song. Adam Jones doubles as guitarist and visual arts director for the band. Tool’s emphasis
on art combined with long, complex releases, leads many music critics to describe Tool as either
progressive rock, psychedelic rock, or art rock.
