Midland hails from Dripping Springs, TX, and is led by Sonoita, Arizona, native Mark Wystrach on
lead vocals and guitars. To his right, is lead guitarist Jess Carson, with bass player Cameron Duddy
on his left. The band has been around since 2016 and their neotraditional country sound is what
attracted me and other Midland fans to them and their music. With their roots lying in traditional in
both sound and in style, the trio initially amassed attention playing local clubs in their region. Their
first album, “On The Rocks,” was released in 2017 and was #2 on the country charts and received rave
reviews, declared “The Year’s Best Country Album” by The Washington Post. Their Double Platinum-
certified chart-topping debut “Drinkin’ Problem,” which offers an intentional nod to country music
reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s, earned the band their first Grammy nominations for “Best Country
Song” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance.” Midland was also named “New Vocal Group of
the Year” at the 2018 ACM Awards.
