Right about the beginning of this crazy new world of social distancing that
we all live in now, fraught with restrictions and stay-at-home orders, I was
able to catch Soul Asylum at Sunshine Studios Live in Colorado Springs.
They are still led by lead vocalist Dave Pirner and backed by powerhouse
drummer Michael Bland, who was a drummer for Prince for seven years.
Soul Asylum, which began back in the early 80s and was well known for
their dynamic stage presence, came out strong -- as if we had time-
warped back to those Aqua Net hairspray days. They started the night
with a brand-new song called “Got It Pretty Good,” off of their new album
“Hurry Up and Wait.” They followed with “Can’t Even Tell,” which was
featured on the movie “Clerks” in ‘94. Next up was “Somebody to Shove,”
the first song off of their sixth studio album “Grave Dancers Union,” which
was certified Triple Platinum.
