The 3-piece band started playing shows all over Los Angeles, California, and fronting for
Filipino bands touring in America. In 2017, they decided to add another guitar player and
vocals to bring in heavier sounds for Calrats’ songs. Leonard Zipagan, a close friend of the
band and a guitarist who was actively playing shows around the local music scene, was
invited to join Calrats and fill out their sound and lineup. Drawing from the inspiration from
Leonard’s last name, the band decided to change “Calrats” to “Calratz.”
As they continued to play shows and write songs, drummer Macky Reyes decided to focus
with his work and career. Despite not being able to fully commit with Calratz, he continues to
be a close friend and supporter of the band to this day.
Francis Nuega, another close friend of the band and known to be one of the most versatile
drummers in the local Filipino music scene, stepped in and filled in drums for Calratz. After
playing several shows and recording drum tracks with the band, Francis Nuega became a
full-fledged member of Calratz.
