The show kicked off with music by Grupo Xprezzion, followed by Ram Herrera, but
tonight, the amphitheater was packed with an army of Michael Salgado fans. Michael
performed a long set list, including some English country covers and his originals. I did
notice that the first 5 rows of seats were removed and replaced with people ready to
dance. No photo pit for me! I did get in the midst of the mix and mingle with fans and
catch some great shots of Michael while being pushed around by the dancing people,
drinks in hand. It was most definitely a party atmosphere!
It bears mentioning that on February 16, 2019, Michael Salgado suffered a stroke
following a concert in Austin, Texas. Michael shared a message with his fans from his
hospital bed where he confirmed his condition and gave fans an update on his progress.
He posted the announcement in a video on his official Facebook page, stating that he
was not feeling well after a show in Austin, so he went to the hospital, where an MRI
scan revealed that he had a stroke. However, he appears to be fully recovered, as on
the AVA stage, he seemed to have the same energy as when I saw him the first time.
I think the next time Michael comes into town, I’ll leave my camera at home and just
attend as a fan, have some whiskey, and join the party!
