Marty Haviik: Pamela, how would you describe your music and
what style of singer would you classify yourself?
Pamela Jean: Country/rock, singer/songwriter…a mix between Patsy
and Stevie Nicks.
MH: For whatever reason, I was thinking you were from Seattle,
which I lived there for a couple of years. It turns out that you're
currently from Northern Idaho. Yes? Share with our readers a
little bit about yourself and explain the ‘calling 5 different states
'home'’ statement.
PJ: I'm born in St. Paul, MN, and raised in a small town north of there.
We grew up in a town that didn't even have stop lights, lived behind
a pumpkin patch, and 6 blocks from Comfort Lake. Small towns and
snow weren't for me. After I graduated high school, I needed more to
my life. I set off for sunny Florida and lived in Clearwater Beach for 3
months. Life was hard at 19, living on my own so far from family, so I
came back to Minnesota to regroup for a couple years. Still hating
winter, I met a girl, Erin, who later agreed to move back to Florida with
me. We became inseparable. I spent 2 years in Tampa but couldn't
get my music to take off. In 2005, I moved to the bright lights of Las
Vegas. After a year and a half there, I moved to Southern California,
where my music career was about to explode. I spent 8 years in North
County San Diego living by the ocean. In 2013, I had a job offer to
work at NorCal Master-Craft in Sacramento, where I would be able to
play music at all their events as well as work in the sales department.
The 500-mile journey was a GREAT change of pace for me! City life
had taken its toll on this once small-town girl and NorCal was the
PERFECT place for me to unwind and go back to my ‘roots’ way of
life. I spent a year in Sacramento and moved to a small cabin in the
woods in Pollock Pines, CA. This next 3.5 years was quite the journey
as I got mixed up with the wrong guy and spent almost 3 years in a
domestic violent relationship. On July 11th, 2017, my day of freedom
came. My father put $2,000 in my bank account, paid for my U-Haul,
and told me to leave the mountain and NEVER look back. My dog
Bella and I just started driving. I had never been to the Pacific
Northwest and decided the Spokane area sounded good! I posted an
ad on the Spokane Craigslist, looking for a dog-friendly room to rent,
and my best friend and I ended up in beautiful North Idaho. I really
enjoy traveling and moving around our beautiful country!
