“I’m not sleeping tonight. I’m gonna pass out when I get home!” Dirtnap vocalist John Dame stated
right before closing with their last song of the evening. Dirtnap, Arizona’s raunchiest rock/metal
band, has survived for 20 years, serving up a dastardly dose of their pure, unfiltered, rowdy, drunken
metal. Tonight’s show was nothing different, where they celebrated 20 years of induced rock and
roll at Encore Night Club in Tucson.

The evening started slow, with several local bands opening the show to a scant 20 people. But as
soon as the band came on stage with John Dame (vocals), Joe Nutt (bass), Darren Mitch (guitars),

and Troy Yahraes (drums), it packed the house quickly. I could smell the alcohol before they even
started playing their first tune, “Freakshow” -- one of my favorites, I might add. Song after song, I
wondered which member would pass out and fall off the stage first. I’m thrilled to report…all survived
their set in an upright position.

In all honesty, this band is a great, fun band to be around. All are talented musicians in their own
right. Dirtnap has performed and shared the stage with many popular national acts, including Judas
Priest, Five Finger Death Punch, Prong, Saliva, and a whole bunch more. There are only a handful
of Arizona metal bands that I really enjoy watching, and Dirtnap is one of them.
