TB: You also released Jack The Radio Comic-Music Magazine. Talk about the
magazines and where can people go to read them?
George: We released the anthology comic in 2020, but we didn’t have another album
ready until this year (2024). In 2021, I started thinking about releasing more comics,
but I wanted to pivot into more of a magazine feel with interviews, articles/features,
comic strips and stories -- all collected in a standard US comic book size. That led to
releasing the first music-comic magazine, issue #1, in 2022, which featured some
pinups, a short comic, some articles written by Danny, and song lyrics. I learned a lot
with that issue that I carried that into issue #2 in 2023, and even more into our issue
#3 released this year.
TB: Did you plan on releasing a new comic book with the new album?
George: We released a new music-comic around the same time as the new album. It’s
a stand-alone 24-page comic with an homage cover by Kevin Anthony Catalan (Space
Knights) and written and created by me. The book features interviews with Tradd
Moore (Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange, Batman), Esoteric (Czarface), plus comic strips
by Chris Anderson and Pat Rooks, illustrations by Mark Laszlo, Josh Alvarado, and
Keith Ross (Tiny Concert), and a six-page comic with Greg and Fake (Santos Sisters).
Plus, links to some of the songs from the new Under Lonely Light album.
TB: As you look back over the 13 years since your first album release, what
moments really stick out in your mind?
Danny: We’ve been extremely lucky to share the stage with some outstanding artists
over the years. If you had told me years ago that I’d sit side-stage for the Cold War
Kids, chat about lap steels with Robert Randolph, or strike up a friendship with one of
my favorite songwriters, Rayland Baxter, I don’t know that I would have believed you.
Jack The Radio continues to be a conduit for a very artistically fulfilling connection to
an outstanding music scene. As far as specific shows, I’d have to say that playing a
rooftop show at sundown in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. for the WordXWord festival will
go down as a pretty memorable moment for the band!
Go check out the group’s new album, get a hold of their comic books. Please show
some love to Jack The Radio, as they are still creating fantastic music some 15-plus
years after they got together. You can follow them on social media and listen to their
music on Spotify links are included for you.
