Porno for Pyros is an alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1992.
The band emerged from the ashes of Jane’s Addiction after its dissolution
in 1991. Perry Farrell, the charismatic frontman of Jane’s Addiction,
collaborated with drummer Stephen Perkins, guitarist Peter DiStefano, and
bassist Martyn LeNoble to create Porno for Pyros. The band’s name was
inspired by an advertisement Farrell saw in a fireworks magazine.
Porno for Pyros released their self-titled debut album in April 1993. The
album was a success, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200 chart.
It featured the hit single “Pets,” which became a staple of early 1990’s
alternative rock radio. The band’s sound, characterized by Farrell’s
distinctive voice and a blend of rock, punk, and psychedelic influences,
resonated with fans of Jane’s Addiction and an audience seeking new
alternative sounds.
