academic year was $12,420 at public four-year institutions and $5,175 at public two-year institutions. Out-of-

years compared to the prior year. The average out-of-state tuition cost for the 2019-20 academic year was
$26,809 at public four-year institutions and $10,673 at public two-year institutions. The total amount of tuition

abatements for out-of-state tuition at public institutions was $186,726,543, an increase of 9.6% from the

The CHE collects tuition and fee data through the CHE Form 100 which is completed annually by

financial officers at each public institution. The data reported aligns with the federal Integrated
Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) definition of tuition and fees which the CHE specifies as the

amount of tuition and fees covering the entire academic year for an undergraduate student enrolled 12 or

more hours per semester. The complete tuition and fee report can be found on the CHE website.
Independent institutions in South Carolina do not report tuition and fee data to the CHE.
