Welcome to Mission Statement Part 4
of the TOPUCU Finisher Program. Today
we are going to continue the process of
creating your very own PERSONAL MISSION
STATEMENT with a concentration on your
finances and work life.
Now to be clear, we are not here to give
you financial advice or to tell you what to
do with your money or how to make more
money. However, we do feel that taking your
financial state into consideration is a key
component when formulating your overall
mission statement.
You may be thriving in your career and your
finances. Or maybe you’re living check to
check. Or perhaps you’re a young person
who hasn’t begun a career. You may even be
unemployed or retired or receiving disability.
No matter what your situation is, having a
solid idea of how you approach your finances
and/or your work life is very important.
NOTE: Along with considering your
approach to money, work life can also
include your role as a student, a stay-at-
home parent, your work in the community
as a volunteer or any other role that directly
relates to your work ethic.

The following exercises will help you consider
many aspects and point you in the direction
of writing different ideas that can be a part
of your overall personal mission statement.
By the end of this exercise you should have 3
to 4 paragraphs.
1. Refer back to your summary statement
from Part 1. How can you apply that
statement to your finances and work life?
2. Do an honest evaluation of your approach
to money. Are you frugal? Are you a big
spender? Do you live above your means?
Do you save enough money? Do you save
too much money? Etc.
3. What comes to mind when you consider
your “core beliefs” about money?
4. What do you do each day to help your
financial well-being? What could you be
doing to help it even more?
5. Outside of handing out cash, what are
some different ways you can use your
financial situation to positively affect
people around you?
6. Think about the positive impacts you have,
or would like to have, on the people you
work with or work for.
7. How can you use your unique talents
and abilities to excel at your job, career
or business? How can you use your
unique talents to excel as a student?
A volunteer? Etc.

8. If you’re a stay-at-home parent or
caretaker, how can you use your unique
talents and abilities to excel in that role?
9. If you are searching for work or a different
job, what can you do to be more effective
in your search?
Today as you write about your finances and
career, we encourage you to think honestly
about your current situation. While we do
want you to consider how you can take
steps to be better in the future, we want
to remind you that you will spend some
time creating very specific GOALS for your
finances and work life in the next couple of
weeks. What you are writing today is part of
your personal mission statement and should
be thought of as your core beliefs on this
aspect of your life.
NOTES:
Mission Statement: Part 4
REMINDER: As you write, do not get stuck
on editing and grammar or whether it
“sounds good.” Just write it or type it all out.
As we move forward we will refine what you
write and encourage you to extract the most
meaningful parts in order to build a concise
and powerful mission statement for your life.
Don’t take any short cuts and don’t skip this
step. Remember, when you begin something
and don’t follow through, “The Only Person
U Cheat Is U!”
