In keeping with Santana's initial vision, La Manga Club had the honour of hosting matches between Spain and Canada in the 1991 Davis Cup. The Spanish winning over three days and claiming a 4-1 overall victory. This victory attracted lots of press attention and was one of the main reasons for the many tournaments that followed at La Manga Club. Recently, this included hosting a Federation Cup against Paraguay in April 2018, in which Carla Suarez and Garbiñe Muguruza played, and Spain won 3-1.
.On the 7th and 8th February 2020, La Manga Club once again hosted a Federation Cup qualifying round in which the Spanish women's team played Japan.

The stakes were high for both countries. The winner would qualify for the new look final phase of the Federation Cup, scheduled to take place on the 14th and 19th April 2020 in Budapest, Hungary. Before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, twelve countries were due to feature in the finals. France and Australia had already secured their places, host country Hungary also had a slot, and the Czech Republic had received an invitation from the organisers.
The opening rubber saw Japan's Naomi Osaka suffer a shock 6-0, 6-3 loss to ain's Sara Sorribes Tormo. The ex-world number one Osaka losing 10 consecutive points on her opening serves, as Sorribes Tormo dominated the first set. The Japanese player fought back and led 2-0 in the second set, but Sorribes Tormo, ranked 78th in the world, rallied and took the rubber.
"We knew Sara could make it very uncomfortable for Naomi and she stuck to the game plan perfectly," saidSpaincaptainAnabelMedinaGarrigues.
