The beauty of living on the Costa Calida is that we have mixed terrain, the flats around Torre Pacheco and hills over Portman and the other side of Cartagena, which is what I prefer. Two of my favourite routes are Perin which has a British built aqueduct and Mazarrón, which is a lovely seaside town.
Just to give you some stats. Last year I rode 12,000kms and climbed 115,000 metres, which I think is the equivalent to climbing Everest 13 times.
Cycling has given me such a lot over the last four years. I have made lots of new friends both in Spain and in my UK cycling club, Liverpool Century. It's healthy, gets you outdoors keeps you fit, and you
can drink beerswithout feeling too guilty!
I would really like to thank some of my cycling buddies for putting up with my obsessive behaviour, Stewart Harris. He is the Godfather of our group. Nigel Parker, Darren Freeman, Neil Beattie, Roger Taylor and Marion Reed.Plus, Geoff Cox for tolerating my lack of practical knowledge when things go wrong with my bikes. Sorry if I haven't mentioned you by name, but there are quite a few of us!
So the next challenge. Maybe Lands End to John O Groats. It's not the 960 miles that's putting me off,it'sthe UKweather! We willsee.
If you are thinking about having a go come and join us. Trust me, you will soon be hooked!
