Work of the Vice Chancellor at GCU Lahore during 2020
We developed a five-point 2020-2024 Strategic Vision outlining key measures necessary in improving (1) the quality of teaching, (2)
the impactful research, (3) internationalisation, (4) infrastructure development and (5) good governance. Measures taken in the first
year align are summarised below.
1) Strict adherence of merit-based admissions. The Chairpersons, Directorate of Sports and Advisors of Clubs/ Societies were
empowered to ensure that all admissions, including sports-based and extracurricular admissions, have been done based
strictly on merit.
2) Merit-based selection of Visiting Faculty. The selection criteria for appointments of Visiting Faculty were revised to ensure
selection of the best possible individuals, via adverts in national dailies and through the reformation of the departmental
selection committees.
3) Development of a structured Online Education Policy helped faculty and students for effective virtual teaching/assessments
during the lockdown, by GCU LMS and MS-Teams.
4) New clubs and societies established by a fresh reappraisal of their roles/functions; many new societies were established, to
engage students and promote their leadership skills. The new GCU's Kashmir Society established strengthening students'
voice for Kashmir bretherin.
5) The GCU's New Campus at KSK populated by adopting an initial policy in which each dept is encouraged to hold classes. New
Boys' Hostel started easing pressure on other hostels. Likewise, model classrooms in the old campus for better teaching
facilities.
6) The Dars-e-Quran was re-initiated. Islamic scholars were invited to impart the Quranic education to our students on regular
basis. As a member of Chancellor's Committee, I helped develop guidelines to start teaching of Quran with translation at the
