Community pride is a mainstay in the refinery’s ethos. In 2002, the
Killingholme Area Advisory Group (KAAG) was launched which later
became the Community Advisory Group (CAG). They organise summer
fetes, work in Mayflower Wood, Christmas parties for senior citizens and
much, much more.
The group was so successful that Phillips 66 acknowledged it as a fine
example of best practice, and representatives travelled to the United
States to make a presentation to colleagues and communities there.
During this time in the refinery’s life, the Gateway Project was launched
in partnership with the local newspaper. The idea was to make the
community a cleaner, tidier, more pleasant place to be. This evolved into
an area-wide campaign called Street Pride, which laid the foundation
stones for the hugely successful In Bloom groups in the area today.
