SENIOR CHIEF BOATSWAIN'S MATE JARED SMITH
SAN ANTONIO (June 24, 2021) Senior Chief Boatswain’s Mate Jared
Smith, of Oceanside, Calif., assigned to Navy Operational Support Center
(NOSC) San Antonio, receives the American Flag from Electrician’s
Mate 2nd Benjamin Vela of NOSC San Antonio during a funeral honors
demonstration at Navy Day at the Alamo held during Fiesta San Antonio.
Other activities conducted during Navy Day were future Sailors’ oath of
enlistment, Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship presentations
by Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) San Antonio, demonstrations
from Master-at-Arms Sailors and military working dogs (MWD) of
NTTC Lackland, along with a color guard provided by Navy Information
Operations Command (NIOC) Texas.
The keynote speaker was Cmdr. Nicholas Gamiz, commanding officer, Naval
Technical Training Center (NTTC) Lackland. NTAG San Antonio’s area
of responsibility includes two TAOCs which manage more than 34 Navy
Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout

Quartermaster 3rd Class Anette Goelz, from San Diego, assigned
to the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Lassen’s
(DDG 82) navigation department, uses a sextant during a
replenishment-at-sea with USNS Joshua Humphreys (T-AO-
188), June 12, 2021. Lassen is underway in the Atlantic Ocean
supporting USS Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) Full Ship Shock
Trials. The U.S. Navy conducts shock trials of new ship designs
using live explosives to confirm that our warships can continue to
meet demanding mission requirements under harsh conditions

LT. MADELINE MURPHY
SAN DIEGO (July 14, 2021) Lt. Madeline Murphy, a physical therapist
assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command
(NMRTC) San Diego’s Directorate for Clinical Support Services, feeds
a mini horse used for therapy in the hospital’s courtyard July 14, 2021.
Cornerstone Therapeutic Riding Center provides those in need with
access to horses for therapeutic benefits. NMRTC San Diego’s mission
is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational
forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of
military medicine through education, training and research. NMRTC
San Diego employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel,
civilians, and contractors in Southern California to provide patients
