MoE, Dubai SME sign cooperation pact

DUBAI: The Ministry of Economy and the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Small and
Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME), have signed a cooperation agreement to boost
the competitiveness of the country’s entrepreneurship sector, as well as train national entrepreneurs
and raise their capacities.
The signing of the agreement was attended by Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of
Economy, and Sami Al Qamzi, Director-General of the Dubai Department of Economic
Development. The agreement was signed by Mohammed Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi,
Ministry Under-Secretary for Economic Affairs, and Abdul Basit Al Janahi, Executive Director
of Dubai SME.
The signing of the agreement is the completion of the exerted efforts of the Ministry
of Economy and the Council of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Projects, SMEs Council,
which aim to create positive partnerships with various relevant federal and local authorities
concerned with the development of a local entrepreneurship environment, to promote
entrepreneurship and support the country’s development goals, as part of the UAE Vision 2021.
Al Mansouri said that the Ministry and the SMEs Council have placed building and raising the
capacities of the country’s entrepreneurs on the top of their priorities, due to the importance of this
vital sector that represents the cornerstone of economic diversification and sustainable
development, which the UAE is working on to promote its principles.
Al Qamzi highlighted the importance of the agreement in encouraging innovative thinking
among UAE nationals, by training them and raising their awareness about the latest developments
in entrepreneurship. He added that SMEs are the backbone of both Dubai’s economy and the
UAE’s economy while pointing out that the department is adopting a clear policy, which aims to
support and develop SMEs.
