The fifth suggestion is that Korean preachers should pay close attention to mercurial cultural
climate of their society in general and their people in particular. They need to adapt their
message according to the audience, following careful study of congregation and conversation
with members of the congregation. The content of the message should be God-centered
revelation while the vessel containing the message should be people-centered, communicated in
a manner conductive to easy comprehension. This sensitivity to their epistemological status is a
way of expressing love for them. Consequently, this paper suggested an inductive movement to
preaching since it fits well with the Korean epistemological process and the ever-growing
postmodern anti-authoritarian ethos in Korean society.
The sixth suggestion to Korean preachers is to study and utilize contemporary literary
forms and expressions as well as rhetorical devices employed by effective contemporary
speakers. The mode of language and communicative devices are subject to constant change; and
consequently the preacher must keep pace. An old rusty knife cannot cut wood. Seventh, Koran
preachers need to cultivate the sensitivity and wisdom to locate simple language, images, and
stories of contemporary everyday life situations. People easily relate and apply profound spiritual
lessons when the language and stories are from their everyday life.
When the scribes harangued the Jewish people week by week in the synagogues, Jesus
preached to their astonishment. The message was compelling but they heard him gladly. When
they follow Jesus’ example, Korean preachers have in their hands the power to restore the
wonder and renew the joy in listening and feeding upon the Word of God through preaching. The
Korean church has a right to hear the Word of God, the Word that nourished, sustained, and
flourished the church throughout the years. If they hear the Word of God, they will live out the
