MIDDLEBOROUGH CURRICULUM &
PUBLIC
INSTRUCTION
SCHOOLS
Dr. Terri Marculitis
Director
The Ofice of Curriculum and Instruction oversees all
aspects of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and
professional development for Middleborough Public
Schools. In addition to this, the Director also oversees the
induction and mentoring program, homeschool
procedures, English Learner Program, and any other
duties as directed by the Superintendent of Schools. The
following features some of the significant events from
across the Middleborough Public Schools in the 2024-25
school year.
Curriculum Review Cycle
• In 2024-25, the Curriculum and Instruction ofice is
conducting a Science curriculum review. In Science, we
are reviewing current practices and curriculum to make
sure that they are evidence based, robust, and meet the
needs of all learners.
• While ELA was not reviewed this year, the district
continues to train staf on UFLI for foundational literacy
instruction as well as ofer training in Orton Gillingham
for several staf members to support our students'
literacy needs. We have also provided training on Lexia,
Early Bird, STAR 360, and Empowering Writers.
• ELA and World Language as well as our English Learner
program will be reviewed in the 2025-2026 school year.
Professional Development
• The Curriculum and Instruction ofice analyzes district
data for professional development allowing the district
to identify the high priority needs of teachers for their
licenses as well as personal growth and to support the
needs of students. This year we continue to focus on
curriculum development, specifically in the area of
common assessments, training for our new
foundational literacy program, implementation of the
new IEP, Empowering Writers, training on numerous
technology platforms, and work on the District’s
Strategic Plan.
• We continue to partner with Teresa Sullivan, a veteran
Massachusetts high school principal and professional
development provider, to work with our secondary
educators on leadership skills, calibration of team and
school goals, increasing writing time and enhancing
feedback practices for educators.
• We have begun to train our District Data Team. Once
completed, these trainers will train the building data
teams.
Advancing Curriculum for our English Learners
• The district will be fully stafed for the English Learner
Program with an EL teacher at every building.
• Our ELL teachers are using Cengage curriculum which
was purchased through the Student Opportunity Act
Grant and Title 1 funds.
