FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT (continued)
In the classroom students are challenged to develop
their skills and abilities in a wide variety of artistic areas.
Arts staf members are currently working to continue
developing curriculum that aligns with the state and
national standards in the arts and also presents students
with engaging opportunities.
HISTORY AND SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT:
The History and Social Sciences Department maintains
providing all students with multiple opportunities to learn
both within and beyond the walls of the history classrooms
here at Middleborough High School.
Our Performing Arts students produced three main stage
productions and numerous concerts this year including,
‘Death by Chocolate’, ‘Radium Girls’, ‘That’s
Entertainment 45’ and ‘Mean Girls - The Musical’.
Students won several awards at the Massachusetts
Educational Theatre Guild competition and
Middleborough High School was a host for the
preliminary round in March. The band, orchestra and
concert choir participated in the Great East Music Festival
in March and were awarded silver and gold medals for
their performances. In TV Production, several students
were nominated for several regional national TV
production awards. The program received three Student
Awards for Excellence from the National Academy of
Television Arts & Sciences.
MHS students were ofered the opportunity to participate
in National Voter Registration Day and the 2024 National
Student Mock Election during all four lunch periods.
Outreach completed by the Middleborough High School
‘Rho Kappa’ History Honor Society included collaborating
with and directly assisting the Middleborough Historical
Association and various community partnerships.
Moreover, all members of the History and Social Sciences
Department continue to collaborate in grade-level teams
through professional development meeting time, and
beyond, to revise curriculum inclusive of the 2018
Massachusetts History and Social Sciences framework
standards and to achieve assessment revisions in all
departmental core academic and Advanced Placement
oferings. The History and Social Sciences Department
continues to participate in professional development
workshops focused on diferentiated and best
instructional practices, inquiry-based learning, historical
argumentative writing and civic engagement.
The Visual & Digital Arts Program received several
student awards and displayed various works of art in the
high school and in the community. An art gallery was
presented at the 2nd Annual Dani Duggan Fine Arts
Festival held in May. The festival was a true celebration of
the arts in all disciplines and at all grade levels across the
district.
Additionally, the members of the department have been
quite busy working to align the updated state standards
and to create common assessments for each unit of study,
and employing this collective data to improve daily
instruction for all students enrolled in core history and
