Camogie in the Time of Covid
Ann Sanz—Clare Camogie Covid Officer
Trying to organise a Camogie Championship where all players would get the
opportunity to safely play as many games as possible has been challenging to say the
least. From wondering if we would even get to train to who has to fill in the health
questionnaire (and when and how often!) to how many spectators we can allow in, we
have come a long way since last June when we were given the go-ahead to plan the
fixtures. The new ‘position’ of Covid Supervisor was created to help Clubs ensure their
players, managers and officers were aware of what they had to do so that they could
get back to doing what they wanted to do – play camogie. Would it all work and how
would it impact on the Clubs?
However, we needn’t have worried as right from the very first games played last July
the Clubs have rowed in behind the County Board, doing everything that was asked of
them. Players and mentors have gotten used to resubmitting their questionnaires
before every training session and match, parents have spent more time sitting in the
carpark that they would normally have done and spectators for the most part abided
by the guidelines of only 200 at any given match.
