include YMCAs and Healthy Living Centers of America. where he “connects communities to clinically proven health
outcomes through strategic partnerships.”
Locally, CHP has established partnerships with Help a
Diabetic Child, the Weny Charitable Trust and Health Care According to Paul, this model is about more than prescribing
Network of Southwest Florida. This relationship already has a wellness or rehabilitation workout routine. “Our focus,” he
led to the first ever Diabetes Camp in Southwest Florida, says, “is on strengthening our Southwest Florida community
held on our campus this summer. and empowering healthier living.”
Many of us know Paul Thein from his tenure as CEO of the CHP staff will be on site soon. Look for them in our new
Greater Naples YMCA. These days Paul is Senior Executive Community Partners Room – just off the new 24-hour

ONE OF A KIND CAMP FOR ONE OF A KIND KIDS
DIABETES CAMP
Youngsters from the Marco
Island-Naples area attended
Diabetes Camp – the first of
its kind in Southwest Florida
– at the Marco Y. The camp
was a collaboration of the
Marco Y and Help a Diabetic
Child (HADC), with support
from the Weny Charitable
Trust.
Because of health risks and
liability, many summer camps
exclude diabetic children,
but with a CORE Health
nurse on hand at all times,
campers could fully engage in
a summer camp experience.
HADC founder Tami Balavage
points to many positive
aspects of summer camp
such as education and
new friendships with other
kids who understand their
challenges. Of course,
camp is also about exciting
activities and just having fun.
