Play the game on page 28 with students. 04 Following the Footsteps
First, ask 2 students to volunteer and

2. Build Understanding

In order to win the game, students need to guess how many feet lengths it takes to win and also guess how
many feet lengths their partner will take.
When there are 3 feet lengths left

If A takes 1 foot length, and B takes 1 foot length, then A can take another foot length, so A wins.
If A takes 1 foot length, and B takes 2 feet lengths, then A cannot move anymore, so B wins.
If A takes 2 feet lengths, and B takes 1 foot length, then A cannot move anymore, so B wins.
When there are 2 feet lengths left
If A takes 1 foot length, then B can only take 1 foot length, so B wins.
If A takes 2 feet lengths, then B cannot move anymore, so A wins.
