B WRITING A BIOGRAPHY

A BIOGRAPHY is the story of a person’s life. BIOGRAPHIES are often
written about important people who do amazing things. A BIOGRAPHY can
include many details about a person. Most importantly, it should tell who
the person is, where he or she came from, and what he or she achieved.
Usually all the details come in the order they happened.

WARM UP Number the events in the order that makes the most sense.

Lincoln was elected president in 1861.
1 Abraham Lincoln was born to a poor family in Illinois.

As president, he ended the Civil War and slavery.
He decided to make a career in politics.

Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was a very important president. He accomplished
many things. Lincoln was born to a poor family in Illinois. He taught
himself to read and write. Later, he decided to become a politician.
By 1861, he was president of the United States. He helped end the
Civil War and made slavery illegal.
