Making a closer number by adding
or subtracting

Let’s make the closest number to the target number by using number
chips and operation chips.

Materials: Create Expression activity board,
1 Number chip set (1-9), 1 Operation chip set ( , )

1 Prepare one Create Expression activity board, one number chip set
from 1 to 9, and one operation chip set (+, -).

2 Make the number closest to the number given in the by using four
given number chips and operation chips + or -.

Example

Target number: 70

I made a number 63
using four number chips
2, 3, 6, and 8. The difference
between 63 and 70 is 7.
