Let’s make the number closest to the target number using four number
chips and an operation chip + or −.

Number 1. Shuffle four number chip sets from 0 to 9 face down and place them in the
Battle middle of the table.
2. Each player takes one Create Expression activity board and operation chips ( , ).
3. Decide who will go first. One player selects two number chips and decides on a
number as a target number. Place the first selection of the number chip in the
tens place.

4. Each player takes four number chips. Place the selected chips and an operation
chip on the activity board to make an addition or subtraction sentence. The result
must be the number closest to the target number.

5. Each player says the result and shows the number sentence he/she made.

6. The player who makes the closer number to the target number wins.
