Among the Few
In the previous edition I promised you an Excel trick or two.
Earlier I spoke about beating the market on the day. To track this in Excel, there is a
feature (not well-known) to assist you. Assume that you have the following table that
represents your daily return percentage for the previous day’s return, and the same for
the index: 6
A B C
1 Daily Derby
2 Us ALSI Δ
3 0.3% 0.0% 0.30%
4 0.6% (–0.3%) 0.57%
5 0.1% 1.0% (–0.85%)
6 0.1% 0.3% (–0.21%)
7 1.0% 1.1% (–0.05%)
To count the number of days you won, use the following formula: =SUM(IF(A3:A7>B3:B7,1,0))
After typing the formula, use the keypad and enter Ctrl-Shift-Enter.
Your result should look like this:
Fund vs. Index Daily Derby
Total trading days 5 PROVINCIAL OUTLOOK NATIONAL OUTLOOK GLOBAL OUTLOOK GAP HOUSING INVESTOR NARRATIVE SPOT THE OPPORTUNITY PORTFOLIO INSIGHTS KHULISA NEWSLETTER ELECTRIC VEHICLES ENERGY SECURITY LOOKING AT GDP
6
Fund EOD higher 2
ALSI EOD higher 3
With that dear reader, till next time.
