Strategic Planning for Law Firms
Consultants Need to Understand the Firm’s Culture
For a consultant to be effective, they need to learn, study and understand the firm’s culture. It is that culture that defines and drives the firm and an effective strategic plan must reflect it.
Consultants Need to Learn Underlying Feelings and Tensions
Every firm has its issues, conflicts, tensions and concerns which affect the firm’s operations, for better and worse. A consultant needs to pierce the surface, take a deep dive and learn what’s really going on.
What to Look for in an
Outside Consultant
If you’re going to hire an outside consultant, ask for references from firms like yours who can tell you whether the consultant was effective, professional, helpful and courteous. Also, you want a professional who will, in a pleasant manner, prod and probe, ask and question, gently push and pull to get to the real issues and build a consensus around real solutions. And, obviously, you want someone who will provide value and not overcharge you for their services.
