Week 1

Topic 1: The Technology of Training

                                                       Readings

               Clark R.C. (2008). Developing Technical Training—A Structured
Approach for Developing Classroom and Computer-Based
Instructional Materials. (Third Edition). California: John-Wiley & Sons.

                                                     Study notes

               1. Understand the importance to avoid ineffective training that will

not only involves cost, but also the inefficient result from the training
               2. Five major trends make an effective training a greater priority:

                 I. New Technology
                 II. A Knowledge-Based Workforce
                III. Lifelong Learning

                IV. Access to Learning Resources
                V. Operational Alignment

               3. Technical Training: a structured learning environment engineered
to improve workplace performance in ways that are aligned with

bottom-line business goals. There are five elements to elaborate the
               technical training:

                 I. Structured
                 II. Environment
                III. Engineered

                IV. Workplace Performance
                V. Business Goals

               4. Note the five major phases in Instructional Systems Design (ISD):
analysis, design, development, evaluation, and implementation. The

analysis and design phases, which can consume up to 50 percent of
               the total project
