6. Business Activities
6.1. A2Pay Jobs Fund Programme
Reducing the barriers to sustainable employment and catalysing financial inclusion.
A2PAY manages a Jobs Fund initiative that is focused on providing spaza shop owners with a
technology/training solution aimed at addressing their top 5 pain points. The mandate of the project is to
reduce the barriers to sustainable employment through the application of technology and forge
financial inclusion in the Informal sector. At project end (September 2023) A2Pay will have contracted
6,800 established spaza shops into the program, creating 7500 new jobs and provided training and
coaching to both merchant operator and coach. 10,000 Spaza shops will be targeted over a 3 – 5 year
period of which 40% will be women owned.
In summary A2Pay is…
1. Catalysing the job creation market in this sector by providing a hybrid training methodology and
building pathways to success for merchants, operators and coaches using nudge economics coupled
with technology.
2. Providing a fully integrated point of sale system / business management tool for the Spaza owner
addressing their top pain points and providing them with full performance information.
3. Reducing the barriers to sustainable employment through application of technology in the informal
Sector (Primary Market).
4. Forging inclusion and the provisions of loans via their Financial services company and.
5. On-boarding 10,000 South African Spaza shops and 5 million consumers into the A2Pay ecosystem
before 2024.
As of 31 September 2019 A2Pay has installed more than 1300 business management tools in the same number
of Spaza Shops. Training has been provided to all stores and coaching to the majority.
