AUSSIE HOOPS
Our Aussie Hoops program experienced exponential growth in 2021 as our introductory program for 5 to 10 year olds continues to grow and gain national brand recognition.
In 2021, registrations totalled 7,629, growing by 65% in the past year on what was previously a record figure for Aussie Hoops participation.
WA is punching well above its weight nationally. We are the fastest growing State for Aussie Hoops registrations and now second only to Victoria in terms of overall participation numbers, accounting for one quarter (25%) of all Aussie Hoops participants across Australia.
Our metro Associations have driven much of this growth. Our two largest Aussie Hoops Centres – Cockburn Cougars and Perth Redbacks – both broke through the 1,000 participants barrier this year and are notably two of the largest Aussie Hoops programs in Australia. The Cougars Aussie Hoops program, in particular, has more than doubled in the last year through a focused and committed effort. Equally, relatively new Aussie Hoops Centres at Warwick Senators, Joondalup Wolves and Lakeside Lightning continue to build in just their first couple of years operating.
Towards the back end of 2021 we contributed towards a national review of the Aussie Hoops program, with input from key stakeholders and feedback from participants and providers. This process will continue in 2022 and we are hopeful that this review will lead to further refinements of the program that will help support our Aussie Hoops Local Centres.

CARNIVAL
Our Everyone’s Game Carnivals continue to develop and be enhanced by our partnership with the Department of Communities through our promotion of International Day of People with Disability. Their support helps us to provide three basketball carnivals a year to people with an intellectual disability. These are opportunities for these athletes to play basketball in a fun, social and supportive environment. In doing so we also raise awareness of International Day of People with Disability and promote the message that basketball is for everyone.
Basketball WA has great relationships with many disabled sport providers, including Special Olympics Australia, West Rise Basketball and other inclusive basketball programs that operate from within our basketball clubs, such as those at Rockingham Flames, Perth Redbacks and Newman Raiders. We also continue to provide support to the Associated & Catholic Colleges (ACC), who offer inclusion programs across their 80+ member schools.
