 2021 BASKETBALL WA
WABL 3X3 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
To assist regional and remote athletes and coaches to progress along the competition pathway, in 2021 BWA introduced the opportunity for each region to send representative teams to either the BWA State Championships or the BWA Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) 3x3 State Championships.
The Kimberley chose to send a team of U16 Men to the BWA WABL 3x3 State Championships.
Our first regional representative team performed very well against the much more experienced WABL teams reaching the semi-finals. After a slow start that saw the Kimberley down 8-2 our Kimberley athletes should their resilience & belief in themselves to fight back losing 10-8 to the eventual Champions – the Joondalup Wolves.
The experience of attending the WABL 3x3 State Championship really brought home to our Kimberley athletes that they can compete with some of the best junior players in Western Australia and attendance will now be an annual part of our regional talent development program to assist Kimberley based players/ coaches to access and participate in high level competition.

Zimmarley Williams-Wilson (Derby Basketball
Association) was selected to the Western Australian U16 Men’s Country Team & competed at the Basketball Australia National Championships in Darwin.
Saedi Rivers, also from Derby Basketball was selected as a Reserve in the U14 Country Southern Cross Challenge Team and Fabian George from the Remote Aboriginal Community of One Arm Point, on the very tip of the Dampier Peninsula, became Ardyaloon Basketball Associations first ever Western Australian Representative by being selected as a Reserve in the U15 Country Southern Cross Challenge Team.
As our region’s Western Australian Representation continues to grow our local basketballers are realising that living remotely can have its challenges when it comes to representing WA, but it doesn’t have to stand in the way of you chasing your dream to pull on the black and gold.
“Our first regional representative team performed very well against the much more experienced WABL teams reaching the semi- finals.”
