OFFICIALS EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT
 EDUCATION
In line with restrictions and to provide innovation with providing education to officials, Basketball WA was able to deliver course material via online video presentation which was successful on many occasions. In particular several beginner courses which was supported by our affiliated associations.
In addition, Basketball WA conducted traditional structure and framework to allow associations in metropolitan and regional areas to conduct referee courses. In particular delivery of Level 03 Referee Course which had not been conducted for nearly 10 years, a Level 01 Advanced Course in South West Region and delivery of Level 01 Referee Course in Broome.
We also supported the Koya Aboriginal Corporation with delivery of Beginner Referee Course to provide an opportunity for introduction to Basketball Officiating for local indigenous people in the City of Swan.
Basketball WA was able to deliver the annual scoretable courses prior to junior and senior elite competition along with a statistician course in preparation for the senior elite competition.
Education Numbers
A positive for 2020 was the adaption and willingness to conduct education via video conference, which saw an increase from 2019 in Beginner Referee introduced to Basketball.
This also saw at least every metropolitan association conduct at least one Beginner Course whether it was either face to face or remote education.
Referee Accreditation
  APPOINTMENTS
Southern Cross Challenge
Early in 2020, we were able to select and attend Southern Cross Challenge in Victoria.
We provided opportunities for Referee Development Program Referees for this tournament whom were Rohan Stokes, Joshua Griffiths, Cameron Redhead, Kyle Gammidge, Luke Eaton, Jack Hills,
Chelsea Manglesdorf and Ali Basiri.
Australian Junior Championship
Basketball Australia only able to conduct U20’s and Ivor Burge in 20202, Luke McLaughlan was provided with Gold Mens – Ivor Burge medal appointment as part of this Australian Junior Championships in 2020.
International
In 2020 Blaine Krapljanov was nominated and selected to represent Australia on the international stage, with being selected as an official for Wheelchair Basketball at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games. Naturally with the postponed games this nomination will hopefully proceed in 2021.
