Challenge Achievement and Pathways through Sport Junior Leadership Program
In 2020 three of our Kimberley High Performance Squad members were awarded a Challenge, Achievement and Pathways through Sport (CAPS) Bronze Medallion for giving back over 20 hours to their local basketball association.
CAPS is a Junior Leadership Development Program that all Kimberley High Performance Players are required to participate in to learn that there is more to sport than just playing the game. Through the program young players are encouraged to not just play basketball but also to give back to the sport by volunteering. Young people have so much to give and the CAPS program provides them with a chance to do this.
Zayde Parriman, Christopher Hunter and Daijon Puertollano all from Broome Basketball Association volunteered 151 hours between them by stepping up to coach junior teams, becoming accredited referees so they could referee junior games, and working with younger players across the Kimberley Region in our Healthy Hoopster Heroes Peer Support and Mentoring Program!!
We would like to thank the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, Healthway and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries for their support of this program. CAPS is assisting us to develop some amazing young emerging leaders though the vehicle of basketball and at the same time addressing our need for more volunteers across the Kimberley region.
