 In 2020, was again another busy year in the Pilbara which also saw the recruitment of a Development Trainee Officer joining the team. The extra assistance helped with enabling better engagement with the local Associations and remote communities as well as continuing to explore the new and exciting ways to increase Basketball participation and youth engagement across the region.
AUSSIE HOOPS PROGRAM
The Aussie Hoops program was delivered in all Pilbara Associations which also saw delivery of the program in Roebourne and also Wickham, allowing further indigenous participation. However, due to the Covid-19 lock down, centres in Newman and Pannawonica were unable to be activated and is scheduled for 2021.
In 2020 registrations increased from 2019 with a Development and Talent ID Camp conducted in Term 1. Funding was sought through corporate sponsorship and Local Government for the 2021 Pilbara Classic. Term three also saw a Western Desert tour visiting five remote communities to deliver clinics. This was done in collaboration with NK.
SCHOOLS
SCHOOL SLAM SERIES
The School Slam Series was only able to be conducted in Karratha in 2020, which saw areas such as Tom Price, all Hedland and Paraburdoo unable to participate due to Covid19.
Delivery of basketball sessions, in active after school programs, were delivered weekly within Roebourne schools in collaboration with Global Roaming. 2020 also saw the delivery PE Teacher Level 0 Community Courses and Skills Clinics in Term three for six Karratha Primary Schools. A 3x3 Workshop was also delivered for
ten Karratha High School teachers.
