2019 WABL Season Review
For the League, 2019 was a phenomenal year. A year which has seen record player and team numbers across all associations and age groups.
Continued engagement with all associations with the implementation of the WABL Working Group and the close relationship with WABL administrators continues to make the WABL competition one of the largest junior competitions across the state in any sport.
The WABL competition for the first time introduced a Mental Health Awareness league wide themed round aligned with the SBL. Next year BWA has plans to expand this to include two further themed rounds including Women/ Girls in sport and an appreciation to health workers round.
The League announced the introduction of Hills Raiders Basketball Association into the 2018 competition, the first Association to join since Lakeside Lightning in 1995. It was fantastic to also see them be represented during the 2019 finals series with their Under 14 girls side making
My congratulations also to all personnel who participated throughout the year; to progress through WABL Grading, the WABL regular season and some through to the Finals series is a true testament to your abilities and more importantly hard work.
Thank you also to the WABL Administrators at each Association. These people go above and beyond to ensure players, coaches and refer- ees’ needs are met, with most of them being unpaid volunteers.
The league will continue to review all aspects of the WABL competition including the grading process and finals format to further enhance this competition across all grades. As you are aware Basketball in this state is growing at a rapid rate and we need to keep up with this trend and continue to make this the elite bas- ketball competition within our State.
it all the way to the Grand Final.
