 TOURNAMENTS SMARTER THAN SMOKING
BWA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2019 Smarter than Smoking BWA State Championships were held at the Bendat Basketball Centre and Warwick Stadium across three weekends during November and December. The Championship brought together a record 23 affiliated Associations from around the state who nominated 415 teams to compete across five age groups, a record for any BWA basketball tournament.
The 23 Associations were comprised of the
13 WABL affiliates, Albany, Australind, Bunbury, Bussleton, Dongara, Eaton, Karratha, Geraldton, Pinjarra and Mundaring. WA Metro and Country teams were also nominated in conjunction with their BWA High performance programs.
Shot club operating on all Under 17 and under 19 round robin and finals fixtures with the possibility of extending this to Under 15 for 2020.
Central Rostering of Match Officials as the op- portunity to develop and reward referees at the tournament and at the same time improve the overall standard of officiating. BWA once again took on the task of centralling rostering match officials to all Under 17 and Under 19 games. Once again praised by coaches and players across the weekend and allowed BWA the op- portunity to track the progress of its ever-growing pool of referees.
North Metro TAFE once again live streamed 8 of our finals games across the first weekend. These matches were streamed live through Facebook with record viewing numbers especially from country areas. This is an area of growth opportu- nity from 2020 and beyond.
Some exciting new format ideas are currently being discussed for 2020 to continue to enhance this fantastic competition.
