IBF YOUTH LEADERS 3x3 BASKETBALL CUP
The IBF Youth Leaders 3x3 Basketball Cup is a 3-day festival combining a U18 Mixed 3x3 Tournament with a leadership workshop.
In September 2019, young basketballers, representing 17 different countries from across the South East Asia and Pacific regions, came together in Bali, Indonesia.
The purpose of the program is to promote inclusion and cultural understanding and to encourage the youth to use their love of 3x3 basketball to inspire their communities.
Basketball WA was proud to be represented by four outstanding aboriginal athletes in Jeffrey Farrell, Jermaine Pickett, Pearl Coppin and Nyra Anderson. They were supported by Tour Leader and Perth Lynx player Maddie Allen, who had previously attended an IBF leadership training program in Singapore.
It was a fantastic experience for all concerned. Our representatives took on strong leadership roles and were highly commended by the or- ganisers for their ability to support others.
NATIONAL INDIGENOUS GAMES
In June 2019, Basketball WA proudly partnered with UniSport and the University of Western Australia to provide support for the National Indigenous Games. This national sports event saw hundreds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes compete from across 30 different Australian universities.
This is the 24th year that the Indigenous Nationals have been taken place and only the fourth time that this event has been held in Western Australia on Whadjuk Noongar land.
The games provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary students with the opportuni-
ty to participate and compete at a national sporting level, but, more importantly, to come together to share and celebrate Australia’s rich indigenous culture.
Basketball is one of just four sports played at the National Indigenous Games, which is proof of the sport’s enormous popularity amongst indigenous Australians.
