At both a Board and organisational level, we continue to work closely with Basketball Australia to provide clarity around how
we can best support basketball from the grassroots to the Olympics and everything in between.
BWA continues its support of the pathway
for High Performance women athletes,
by its financial and Board support to the Perth Lynx. The Board is very aware of the financial commitment, but the team and the underlying academy for young WA female athletes, are irreplaceable parts of our pathway.
Looking to the future, the current Strategic Plan is coming to an end in 2020. Management will begin the process of collaborative consultation with the Member Associations to have a 2021 to 2025 Strategic Plan in place prior to the start of 2021.
I would like to thank my fellow Board members: Jeff Dennis (Deputy Chair), Jennifer Riatti, Craig Coleman, Brian Atkin, Andy Stewart and Sandra Riches, for their dedication and the time that they so willingly give to Basketball WA. Incorporating a good mix of skill sets, demographic representation and expertise is a challenge for any Board. Those currently on the Board understand that mix and how important it is to directing the future of the game.
I would also like to thank the hard-working, knowledgeable staff at BWA, admirably led by Rob Clement, CEO, and Evan Stewart, Deputy CEO, who do the work at ground level to implement our wide range of programs. Staff spend long weekends, go on road trips and go above & beyond in support of basketball. Well done.
I would like to give a personal shout-out to our consultant at DLGSC, Jacqui Jashari, whose enthusiasm for making our sport better and more professional, is invaluable.
She is always available to meet and discuss innovative ways to help us with the admin- istrative aspects of our business. Thank you, Jacqui.
Finally, and most importantly, a big
thank you to all of you in the Basketball Community who volunteer week in and week out, from Club basketball to Associations to State teams, giving your time and effort.
I’ll end as always: You put the game on the court, and without you, there is no game. Your love of the game is what drives the sport forward and is its future.
