I did not know how lucky I was when I joined the New- found High School commu- nity halfway through last year. I stepped right in to teach two sections of Honors Algebra 2, which were a lot of fun. But the added bonus was that I happened to have as students in those classes- the leaders of the basketball team that I would be coaching this year. I enjoyed lis- tening to their stories and real- ized how much these guys love sports.
As it turned out, I had been working with the three senior leaders of the boy’s basketball team for this year. They are none other than captains Vinnie De- fosses and Hayden Dolloff, and silent leader Josh Blouin. These guys bring the joy of playing to all three seasons. They play soccer, basketball, and baseball and are honors students in their studies. As the only seniors on the basketball team, they have

has led more through example; he often guards the other team’s best player and does this with grit and determination.
Vinnie, Hayden, and Josh can often be found in the gym, and you will see them every- where during the winter carni- val week. They bring spirit and energy to the school the whole week. They help remind us that “play” is a valuable part of ed- ucation.
Although the basketball sea- son has not gone as well as we would have liked yet, the guys have never given up and strive to improve every day. We have had some challenging games, but people don’t see the work being put in at practice. This effort might pay off in the sec- ond half of the year, or it might not. Either way, I have thor- oughly enjoyed working with these three leaders. Our future seasons will be better as a result of this beginning.
