Holly Briggs's connection to the Tapply Thompson Commu- nity Center (TTCC) goes back more than a decade. After grow- ing up in Rhode Island, Briggs moved to the Newfound area in 2013 and soon found her way to the community center, where she found fantastic opportunities to get involved.
In 2013, she began teaching Irish dance at TTCC, holding classes on and off for about seven years. Even after she stopped teaching, she still wanted to stay involved with the center and the community. Holly could see how impactful the center was for the children in the commu- nity. Today, Briggs works in the after-school program and also takes care of nighttime cleaning at TTCC.
Like many employees at the TTCC, no two days are exactly the same, but her afternoons usually involve plenty of time with the kids. Briggs helps greet them when they arrive, hands out
snacks, plays games, and helps
with crafts. And every once in a while, she gets to bring back a little Irish dancing, giving the children an opportunity to try a short lesson if they are interested.
For Briggs, getting to know the kids is easily one of the best parts of her job.
“My favorite part is building relationships with the kids and getting to know them,” she said. “I love when they’re excited to see me, and it makes my day too!”
Once the kids head home, Briggs switches gears and focuses on cleaning and getting the build- ing ready for the next day. While it may be a quieter part of her work, it is something she takes pride in as part of helping keep the center ready for everyone who walks through the doors.
One thing Briggs especially appreciates about the Newfound community is how many things there are for kids to do. TTCC gives families a place to partici- pate in activities, spend time to- gether, and have fun.
She also has a personal fa- vorite when it comes to TTCC events: Santa’s Village. The yearly event has become a tra- dition for Briggs and her four

children, and her family looks forward to it each year.
Being a mom to four is an- other fun fact that may surprise people who know Briggs through her work at the center.
Briggs also sees TTCC as an important resource for local fam- ilies. Along with providing ac- tivities and a place for people to connect, the center helps families with other needs through pro- grams such as Operation Warm and Every Child Is Ours.
Most of all, Holly hopes people feel welcome when they come to TTCC. She says the staff is friendly with one another and that there is always a posi- tive atmosphere when you walk through the doors.
After more than 10 years of being a part of the TTCC—first as an Irish dance instructor and
now as part of the after-school team—Briggs still enjoys being a familiar face for the children
and families who make the cen- ter such an important part of the community.
