NLRA Guided Exploration
HEBRON – One of the most crucial factors that af- fects an ecosystem is the com- position and properties of the soil. Properties such as pH, amount of organic matter, aeration, and water capacity of soil can affect which plants can grow. Looking at the sand, loam, clay, and silt tex- ture within soil is an import- ant aspect of soil that affects stormwater infiltration rates. Join Newfound Lakes Region Association (NLRA) Water- shed Steward Sawyer Zaluki in exploring the impact of soil and its properties on the growth and development of ecosystems.
This guided exploration will take place September 7th, from 9amto11am,attheGreyRocks Conservation Area. Participants will learn about different soil pro- files & the components presented
in each type and get the chance to conduct their own soil exper- iment looking at the various lay- ers in soils such as organic matter, clay, silt, and sands. Participants also have the option to bring in their own soil samples from their
house to see what type of soil profile they have in their area. This event is free and open to all. You can register at NewfoundLake.org/events or by calling (603)-744-8689.
NLRA works to pro- tect the high-quality waters of Newfound Lake and its watershed, maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosys- tem. Along with educational programming like guided walks and paddles, NLRA monitors water quality, con- serves land, manages storm- water pollution, and monitors for invasive species. For more than 50 years NLRA has
been protecting Newfound Lake, and the results of that conserva- tion are as clear as Newfound’s water. You can learn more about NLRA’s initiatives at Newfound- Lake.org.
