Bristol Democrats Raise Funds in Support of Tapply-Thompson Community Center
BRISTOL — The newly formed Bristol Town Democratic Committee recently held a fund- raiser that raised $750 in sup- port of the Tapply-Thompson Community Center (TTCC), a longstanding recreational and community resource serving Bristol and the surrounding area.
On Friday, committee mem- bers delivered the proceeds of the fundraiser to Les Dion, Recreation Director of the Tap- ply-Thompson Community Center.
Karen Bemis, Chair of the Bristol Town Democratic Com- mittee, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to support the center’s work.
“We are very pleased to sup-
port this outstanding program in our town and proud of the staff who dedicate their time and ef- fort to making Bristol a strong and inclusive community for peo- ple of all ages,” Bemis said. “The Tapply-Thompson Community Center provides opportunities that not all towns are fortunate to have, and we are happy to help advance its mission of inclusion and community engagement.”
Les Dion welcomed the con- tribution and emphasized its importance to ongoing program- ming.
“We are grateful for the sup- port of organizations like the Bristol Town Democratic Com- mittee,” Dion said. “Contribu- tions such as this help ensure that
our programs continue to ex- pand their positive impact on the Town of Bristol and the neigh- boring communities we serve.”
About the Tapply-Thompson Community Center
The Tapply-Thompson Com- munity Center has served the Bristol community since 1946, when Reverend A. B. Thomp- son, then pastor of the United Methodist Church in Bristol, en- visioned a community recreation and support center. His son, Richard “Wink” Tapply, and Wink’s wife Ruth Tapply were instrumental in building com- munity support and establishing policies that ensured programs were accessible to all children, regardless of ability to pay.
Over the decades many of the programs including Santa’s Village and children’s summer activities have continued as val- ued annual traditions. Today, the TTCC offers a wide range of recreational, educational, and community programs and re- mains an essential social and rec- reational resource for residents of Bristol and the surrounding region.
