The Franklin
Historical Soci-
ety, 21 Holy Cross
Road at Webster
Place, welcomes
Randy Kovach,
Site Manager for
the Daniel Web-
ster Birthplace, as
the guest speaker
on Thursday, May 4th, at 7 pm. His topic, as you might expect, will be what the Birthplace offers to visitors in the way of tours and docent talks. If you have been in the past, you might be surprised at what has changed and what is projected for the near future to inform and entertain. Light
refreshments will be served after the presentation and before the regular business meeting, to which everyone is invited. There is no admission and ample park- ing behind the Society’s building (first on the right as you enter the property) and off the pavement of Holy Cross Road.

On Memorial Day, Mon- day, May 29th, at 11 am, the Society will hold a special ceremony officially opening the Martin Memorial Display in the Military Service Exhibit Room of the Daniel Webster Building. In 1942, Roger S. Martin and his aircrew went missing on a mission in the South Pacific. A year later, the War Department issued a letter (on display) declar- ing Roger officially dead. Shortly thereafter, the High School

football field was dedicated to honor his sacrifice. His two younger brothers, Neal (who
served in the European The- ater, including in the Battle of the Bulge) followed him into the service, with Ray serving later in Korea. Neal saved all of Roger’s belongings along with his mother’s scrapbook, photos, footlocker, and Field Dedica- tion memorabilia, which Neal’s daughter Lisa has graciously consented to have the Society display.
Come join the Martin fam- ily in this tribute to honor their fallen soldier, and remember all those who perished so that their country and the way of life they cherished would survive.
