though cruises on the lake are done for the season, the NLRA calendar is full of events to get people outside and engaged with the watershed. You can learn about upcoming events at New- foundLake.org/events. Along with educational programs to foster stewardship of our natural resources, the NLRA performs water quality monitoring, storm- water management, invasive spe- cies monitoring and prevention, and land conservation to work to- wards their mission of protecting and conserving the Newfound Watershed. Visit NewfoundLake. org to learn more about these programs and how you can join the effort.
HEBRON – The New- found Lake Region Association wrapped up another fun, in- formative summer on the lake with the last 2023 EcoTour on Saturday, September 9. These two-hour cruises aboard the NLRA pontoon boat, Made- laine, are a popular summer activity for Newfound’s visitors and long-time residents alike. Passengers regularly see wildlife such as loons and eagles, have the opportunity to be a scientist and collect water quality data, and learn history and trivia from the knowledgeable driver. This summer was particularly exciting with the presence of a loon chick in Hebron Marsh.
Updates from the NLRA
During the 2023 season, Newfound EcoTours shared the beauty and ecology of Newfound with more than 350 passengers coming from New Hampshire and 18 other states. In addition
to regular tours, NLRA collabo- rated with the Loon Preservation Committee to survey the lake’s loons and host three special loon cruises which focused on the ecology and status of these
charismatic birds. EcoTours offer the chance to see the lake, and the larger watershed, from a perspective that not everyone gets to experience, and NLRA worked with local schools and community organizations like Lakes Region Community Ser- vices to expand access to these adventures. NLRA EcoTours will be back in 2024 for another summer sharing NLRA’s passion for and conservation work within the Newfound Watershed.
Newfound EcoTours are part of NLRA’s initiative to introduce residents and visitors of the New- found area to the unique quali- ties of Newfound Lake and the importance of protecting it. Even
