It’s that wonderful time of the year, the snow is mostly gone, ex- cept in some remote locations on Mount Washington. The days are getting noticeably longer, the temperatures are warming, the mud has long since dried. Every- one knows we are close to the be- ginning of true summer. Ahead of us are long warm days by the lake and spectacular sunsets that don’t happen until close to 9:00 PM!
Most importantly, it is the time for summer toys. For some it is Paddleboards and Kayaks. For others it’s a boat, whether it is

for fishing, water skiing or just the plain pleasure of cruising around the lake. For others it’s the two wheeled kind of toys that don’t require water but a smooth paved road.
While it seems counter intu- itive, it is also the perfect time to make sure all of your toys are properly insured. As part of your insurance review there are
important questions you should ask. If there is an accident, are you covered for liability? What about if there are injuries? Do you have adequate medical cov- erage? What physical damage is covered if you have an accident? If you own a boat, did you know that you can get coverage for damage the lower unit of your drive system if you choose the right insurance company that offers that coverage as an option on their policy?
An important consideration is what you will pay for insurance. With the ever-increasing rates, the cost of insurance has become a hot topic for virtually everyone.
So, a word of caution seems to be in order when it comes to purchasing insurance coverage with the operative word being coverage. The reason you pay the insurance premium is that you are covered in the event of an accident. With that perspec- tive, never reduce your cover- age levels to save money. If you want to save money, raise your deductible or said another way, the amount that you are willing to absorb of self-insure if there is an accident. As someone once told me, “The wrong coverage at the right price is still the wrong coverage” so make sure you buy the right coverage and just be
smart about how you buy it. Finally, consider purchasing a personal umbrella policy. They typically are fairly inexpensive and offer and extra layer of pro- tection. They are well worth the
investment.
