Launch of Plymouth Police Department Drone Program
We are excited to announce the launch of our new drone pro- gram aimed at enhancing public safety and security through cut- ting-edge drone technology.
This initiative has been made possible through the generous support and donations from Mount Prospect Academy, whose commitment to community safety is deeply appreciated. We would also like to thank Chief Pierce and the Plymouth Fire Department for their support in developing this program and making it possible.
This program aims to inte- grate drone technology into key areas of public safety by provid- ing a valuable tool to support first responders and improve service delivery to our community.
The Drone Program will focus on the following areas:
1. Enhanced Surveillance:
Drones will provide real-time ae- rial footage of critical areas, al- lowing for improved monitoring and response to criminal activi- ties, and natural disasters, ensur- ing safer neighborhoods.

2. Search and Rescue Oper- ations: In times of crisis, such as locating missing persons, injured individuals, or lost hikers, drones will play a pivotal role by covering large areas quickly and efficiently. 3. Crime Scene Analysis: Drones will capture high-defini-
tion images and video footage of crime scenes, helping investigators gather more detailed evidence without disturbing the area, lead-
ing to faster and more accurate investigations.
4. Traffic Monitoring: By moni- toring traffic from the skies, drones will assist in identifying traffic con- gestion, accidents, and other road issues, allowing law enforcement to take quick action and improve road safety.
5. Crowd Control: During large gatherings, events, or protests, drones will provide an overhead view of crowds, helping officers manage public order more effec- tively while ensuring the safety of participants and the public.
Detective Tom Arnold is a cer- tified sUAS (drone) Remote Pilot. To obtain this license, he took a proctored test administered by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Detective Arnold looks forward to continuing his training when he attends “Search and Rescue Operations for drone operators” in April.
Our goal is to utilize the lat- est technology to better serve our community, enhance operational efficiency, and keep everyone safe. The Drone Program will be con- ducted in full compliance with privacy laws and regulations, with a focus on transparency and ac- countability.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact this initiative will have on the safety and well-being of our citizens. If there are any questions regarding the program, please reach out to Deputy Chief Nate Buffington at 603-536-5869.
