The Alexandria Easter Egg Hunt is back for its fourth year, bringing families and neighbors together in the center of town on April 4, the day before Easter. Or- ganized by Nikki Wooster-Good- win, owner of Cotton Cupcakes, the event has become a popular local tradition focused on com- munity, accessibility, and a bit of friendly competition.
The event takes place at the town gazebo, with the children’s egg hunt starting at 10 a.m. Orga- nizers encourage families to arrive early, as the hunt moves quickly. “These kids are fast—once it starts, it starts,” Wooster-Goodwin said.
The children’s area is divided by age groups, including a sepa- rate roped-off section for kids ages three and under. Teens and older volunteers help set up by hiding eggs throughout the designated areas earlier that morning. Every

child also receives a gift bag, en- suring that everyone leaves with something.
Around 10:45 a.m., the fun continues across the street to the church yard for the adult egg hunt. This part of the event has grown significantly and requires months of planning. This year, about 500 eggs will be hidden, including roughly 380 filled with candy and around 120 containing numbered slips tied to prizes.
The Newfound community has always been quick to support the events so it’s not surprise that local businesses from Alexandria and surrounding towns contribute gift cards and other items, which are awarded to participants who find the numbered eggs. Adults are asked to register at a table the morning of the event so organiz- ers can track prize distribution. Like the children’s hunt, there is
no cost to participate, and all are welcome.
And the fun doesn’t stop at the hunts. The event includes raffles and baked goods, giving attendees time to socialize. A recent bake sale raised nearly $700 to help fund the event. Raffle prizes this year include a painting by local artist Annora Conway and a handcrafted mir- ror by Peter Goody of Clever Hands. Winners will be an- nounced during the adult hunt.
Wooster-Goodwin said the goal of the event is simple: to give people a chance to con- nect. “People don’t always get to see each other because life gets busy,” she said. “This gives everyone a chance to catch up.”
Volunteers are still needed, especially on Saturday morn- ing to help hide eggs before the event begins. Those interested
can reach out for more in- formation.
The event will continue to grow but the goal will always remain the same— bringing people together in an easy, meaningful way. Newfound community members can always expect a sense of belonging and en- ergy during the hunt. The Alexandria Easter Egg Hunt highlights what makes small- town events special. With strong community support and dedicated volunteers, it’s a tradition that shows no signs of slowing down.
