This year’s 35th annual Al- exandria Volunteer Fire Depart- ment’s Ice Fishing Derby saw great conditions and weather that finally cooperated as several hun- dred people came out to take part in the event.
Final results for the winners in this year’s derby were: Rainbow Trout- Ben LaRoche, Mackenzie Ryan and Herbert Brodie; Lake Trout- Shawn Huckins, Justin Lindbloom, with Shawn Huck- ins again in third; Cusk- Adam Hamilton (first and second place) and Cory Stillings in third; Pick- erel- Matthew Courier (first and second place) and Doug Courier in third; Perch- Doug Courier first place and James Rolling in sec- ond- there were no other entries in that category this year.
Winners took home $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third.
Overall Grand Prize winners this year were Shawn Huckins for his Lake Trout ($1,000), Adam Hamilton came in as second overall with his 6.06 pound Cusk ($500) and in third was Ben La- Rocche, who took home an ad- ditional $250 for his 5.32 pound Rainbow Trout.
For the kids, Brantley Rayno was at the top of the leader board; Kinsleigh Simula’s pickerel was the second largest. Ava Leavitt’s trout came in third, Nora Simula was fourth with her pickerel, and Bridgett Lang’s Lake Trout placed her in fourth place. Each was re- warded with a beautiful trophy, courtesy of the Simula family.
Besides the derby prizes and trophies, there were also $1,500 in raffle prizes from generous local businesses and donors awarded
A group of local alumni from Newfound Regional High School celebrated a great weekend in the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department’s 35th Ice Fishing Derby. The kids were proud to show off their fishing skills once again this year at the annual ice fishing derby on Newfound Lake.
