The Maple Tree
By Cindy Carver
Today, the maple tree of my youth Was dismantled by the experts With their saws, crane and chipper. I watched their dance
Because the limbs had to be removed Ever so carefully as the wires were low Hanging low.
What an incredible and graceful job.
As each part of the tree
Was slowly and reverently removed I remembered my days of playing Around and arouns that tree.
It was planted over a 110 years ago By my great grandparents. Their heirs had pleasure of sap And bright colors in the fall.
Now it is sliced up Awaiting use for warm nights And hopefully warm nights
To commemorate its beautiful life.
What remains in the air
Is the sweet smell of sawdust And memories of my Youthful enjoyment around the tree.
